Inferno
The ultimate file destruction tool

What is Inferno?
Inferno is a Windows program that can delete any file using a
variety of overwrite patterns, including two that comply with the
Department of Defense and the Gutmann overwipe pattern.
Inferno can also encrypt and decrypt files using super-strong
AES 256-bit encryption.

General update:
Even though this site hasn't been updated in a while, we're still
working hard on the next version of Inferno. We've completely re-written
the code base, and if things go according to plan, we'll be rolling out
Inferno 1.4, InfernoPE 1.0, and our new website all at the same time!

Our development team has also changed, more details on that is available on
the SF project page. As always, please tell us what you would like to see in a
future version of Inferno, and we'll do our best to add it in.

We've changed!
We've been busy recently behind the scenes here. We're getting ready
to roll out several new things, including:

Inferno Portable Edition - soon you will be able to take Inferno with you! This
version features a lightweight, easy-to-use interface, and a small,
no-install-needed program size.

New Inferno Website - This will simply be a nicer looking site, complete with
our new logo and more! This site will also be more compatible with browsers
other than Mozilla FireFox.

We've also started planning Inferno Utilities, a collection of small tool
designed to make data destruction even easier.

On the development side, we're experimenting with new write routines,
and new code to power those routines. This should result in a faster,
more secure file write. There will also be better context menu
support - we're changing our whole approach to the context menu in
an effort to make it actually work.

Inferno for your flash drive
We've started work on a U3-compliant version of Inferno. This will
enable you to have Inferno installed on your flash drive and use it
on any compatible computer. The upcoming U3 edition will be a slimmed-down
build specifically designed to be used on multiple systems.

Please note that it's usually a bad idea to try to overwrite a file on a flash drive.
If you need to keep sensitive files on a flash drive, try encrypting them first.
